flux series: yellow

A striped flourescent light comprised of the tube, light board, battery cell, plastic wires, and wall plug was submerged/suspended within yellow gel inside of a clear acrylic container. The words “Made in the U.S.A.” were faintly visible on the light brown light board. Over the course of several months, the battery cell began to rust, and red iron was released among the yellow gel in extreme slow motion.

A close-up photo of the rust process later became one of the large 5’x4’ duratrans acrylic light box pieces in consume|produce. This piece was part of my gel and time-based work in sculpture.

Artist: Emily Chang
Type: Mixed media sculpture (gel, flourescent light, acrylic container, sealant).
Exhibited: Center for Perceptual and Exploratory Art (CEPA) Gallery, Buffalo, NY.
