Don't just make it pretty, make it strategic
Friday, June 10, 2005
Since I started designing websites for universities and colleges in 1996, I’ve had numerous conversations about design, both with those on the inside (administrators, marketing communications directors, admissions counselors, information technology teams, webmasters and developers, designers, vice presidents, CIOs, alumni, faculty) as well as those on the outside (students, parents, the community, business leaders, consultants, people on the street).

Palm tree
Walking up to Telegraph Hill and saw this dreamy view of the bay. Sounds silly but I’m still struck by the palm trees, the blue sky and water, the breeze, and how Northern California it all is. Everything feels fresh with the constant Pacific and Bay winds. The sky is so blue that I don’t even need to do any color correction. It’s the vast skies of Western New York paired with the most temperate and livable climate I’ve yet to experience.

The Corporation
Friday, June 03, 2005
I was already entirely aware that we live in a world dominated by corporate messages and influence, controlled by the unending influence of money and profit, but the documentary, The Corporation, paints a much more specific portrait. The current paradigm of greed over humanity is spiraling out of control at a rate much faster and more significantly than any of us realize. We need to find ways to change this paradigm and allow other forms to emerge. Learn more about the issues and what you can do about them at www.thecorporation.tv.
Lunch in North Beach
Thursday, June 02, 2005
North Beach is fine coffee, fresh italian cuisine, sidewalk cafes, and dreamy summer afternoons. For me, it’s also the rare personal pleasure of spending time in the same neighborhood where Jack Kerouac read and wrote poetry. I love this city.
