The Great Oswegatchie Wilderness is 500,000 acres of proposed wilderness in the Adirondacks, NY.  State-owned parcels would be combined with acquisitions from willing sellers to form the second largest wilderness area in the easter United States.

You can join in the groundswell of support for the protection of this unique region in the Adirondacks. The state of New York recently acquired property and easements that are vitally important to this great wilderness area. Spreading the word about the project will keep alive the effort to secure additional private lands as they come on the market.

Please support the cause!

Doing Laundry Online

Wednesday, August 28, 2002

New technology from IBM and USA Technologies will allow college students to do laundry without hunting for quarters or sitting around in the laundromat waiting for their clothes to be done. The eSuds system will connect 9,000 washers and dryers at U.S. colleges and universities to the Internet. Students can check a Web site for available machines and add detergent that the machines dispense. When the laundry is done, the machine sends an e-mail notifying the student.  Swipe cards are used to pay for the laundry instead of cash, and laundromat owners can use the system to monitor machines and perform limited maintenance. The system might also cut down on vandalism, since cash won’t be collected by the machines.

Hackers hit RIAA web site

The Recording Industry Association of America Inc.’s (RIAA) Web site apparently was hacked Wednesday, forcing the music industry backer into a most unnatural act—providing free music for download.

The RIAA has led the fight against the trading of copyright music on the Internet, but now hackers have attacked back at the organization by altering its home page, changing some content on the site and making music available for download.
